Mason Gets in the Game with Runner-Up Finish in Round 4

Plymouth, WI (July 16, 2009) - After missing the first two rounds of racing in the Midwest PRO Super Buggy division of the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL, John Mason got his game face on to put on a late race charge to finish Round 4 in second place. The opening weekend of the series, in Crandon, Wisconsin, saw terminal engine problems prevent the Mason Motorsports, Mendeola Transaxle; Phil’s Inc. Honda powered Super Buggy from even making it to the starting line for the first two rounds of racing.

New for 2009, the Bark River Lions Club, the promoters of the annual event, and Ricky Johnson, one of the owners of the TORC series, came up with some new technical editions to the all-natural terrain layout. The track crew banked several corners, added a rhythm section, widened the hill jump landing area, and increased the size of most of the jumps. This really gave Super Buggies with front a-arm suspension, like the #1 Mendeola Buggy, a definite advantage over the new layout.

Saturday, Round 3
The land rush start put John Mason and his #1 Mendeola Transaxle, Phil’s Inc. Honda powered Super Buggy in the second row due to his mishaps on the opening weekend of the series. The Jet Black Super Buggy had to fight his way through the field as the lack of seat time this year and a hesitating powerplant prevented the 2008 Class Champion from getting up with the leaders. At the flag John Mason finished forth.

Afterwards, John went to work trying to cure the hesitation problem in the engine. Fortunately, he found dirt inside the carburetor and quickly cleaned it out allowing the motor to run perfect.

Sunday, Round 4
The start had the #1 Mendeola Buggy quickly move into fifth place. After a few laps behind #18 Krieman, John made a clean move around to grab the spot. With two laps to go John got by # 2 Lemons for second place. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough time to get close to the leader, as the black buggy crossed the finish in second place.

“Now that was the result we needed,” remarked John Mason. “With all out troubles at Crandon, and then yesterday our engine not running right, we really needed a strong finish. It took me some time to get back into the groove, but half way through today’s race I really got comfortable. We switched to King Shocks this year and it really helped the buggy through the rhythm section. Thanks to my family for helping me here at the track and back home. I am looking forward to racing at Oshkosh once again.”

The next race for Mason Motorsports is under the lights at the Oshkosh Speed Zone, Friday night, July 24 and Saturday night July 25. The Grandstand area only seats 7500 fans so get there early to save your seat.
