Terminal Engine Failure
Ends Weekend
Plymouth, WI (June 27,
2009) - John Mason was looking forward to begin his quest to become the
inaugural TORC PRO Super Buggy Champion with a strong showing at the
opening rounds of racing at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway.
Unfortunately, his primary engine did not get back from the engine builder
in time for the season opener. Never the less, his backup motor was
installed for the weekend.
John took the Mendeola
Transaxles AMSOIL King Shocks Phil's Inc Honda powered Super Buggy out for
the quick Friday evening practice session only to return to his trailer on
the end of a tow strap. The engine expired. Now with only a stock bottom
end and some additional used race parts, John and his crew chief, David
Mason, went to work building and replacing the engine. Somehow, everything
was put back together late Friday night.
Saturday morning John Mason
suited up for another shot at practice, but this session also ended on the
tow strap as the pieced together motor just ran poorly. Before terminal
damage could be done to the powerplant, John shut the engine off. Back at
the Mason Motorsports pit, the team tore down the cylinder head and found
a faulty oil passage, or a lack of one for the camshaft. Without another
engine, Mason Motorsports loaded up the trailer, and watched the races
from the grandstands.
Mason Motorsports will be
ready with their new Honda powerplant at the next TORC weekend of racing,
July 10-11, in Bark River, Michigan.
